Sketch portrait of Caucasian female

It was, like, one in four

I remember reading this thing in one of my classes, and I think it was like one in four [university students are sexually assaulted], and that seems like a crazy number and a lot of times, it is younger students who are partying or using substances and they are scared to come forward with it. I think it should be more known that if you are under certain drugs or alcohol that it's okay for you to speak up. I know a lot of times, people are scared that they are going to get in trouble.

Recommendations

  • Create an inter-university and college roster of peer supporters and educators that includes international and domestic student leaders across genders.

  • Use open-ended questions and collaborative communication when supporting a victim/survivor.

  • Use approaches that are trauma informed and survivor-centred.
