Sexual violence outside of campus

Maybe I just missed the information from you, but the question that I came up with is, what if the sexual violence situation happens outside of campus? For example, what if it happens at someone’s house but it happens to SMU students? [...] Would it be considered by the SMU community as well? Or should the person talk to the police, or somewhere else?

Recommendations

  • Deliver accessible education about Canadian sexual assault laws, including how they work, and the ways they tend to fail survivors in practice.

  • Clarify the relationship between university policy and the criminal justice system.

  • In materials about the policy and the policy itself, highlight information about what happens in the instance of a sexual assault 1) off campus 2) in a virtual environment 3) when the respondent is not a member of the university community.
